The Healthy Home-Cooking Bible
Change Your Food, Change Your Life
(30 Days to cooking at home like a trained chef)
If you are anything like me, the idea of being in the kitchen for hours just to get a good meal is a non-starter.
Not only that, but look at me.
I bet you can tell…I’m not the kind of person who spends a lot of energy avoiding the food I love…
(…and past clients who have easily lost weight eating “all the things” would agree.)
ut I’m healthy as a bull. Got the doctor’s note to prove it.
And I’m here to show you the fastest (and most fun) way I know to cook all the yummy, comforting, and nutritious foods you can think of.
Slow-cooked Pork Chile Verde…
Tender, luscious morsels of pork, with rich, fire-roasted chile flavors…
This is the kind of dish that makes you feel like you’re wrapped up in a warm blanket on a cold, rainy day.
Bowl-blessed Beef Lo Mein…
Sumptuous, deep-flavored sauce, tender-crisp veggies, and perfectly cooked beef, all served up on a heavenly swirl of divinely al dente noodles…
It’s a soul-level culinary revelation!
And creamy-delicious Chicken Fettuccine with Alfredo Sauce…
Unctuous, decadent cream sauce with sharp flavors of parmesan, garlic, and butter, over tender noodles, and topped with lip-smackingly delicious grilled chicken…
It’s enough to make even your Nona question her kitchen prowess!
These pictures don’t do these dishes any justice. But trust me. I cook and eat these all the time at home.
And I still have a life.
I don’t spend all my time in the kitchen.
I might spend 30 minutes making a meal – and I’m usually taking my sweet time about it.
But that’s not how everyone feels.
And I can easily teach you all of the same recipes, methods, techniques, and tricks that will allow you to do the same thing.
Today, I promise if you read this through to the end, I’ll show you how to easily learn some mad kitchen skills and greatly improve your kitchen game, and do it while you’re turning out plate after plate of delectable, nutritious food that supports your lifestyle and doesn’t compromise your time.
AND, by the time you learn with me, people will think you’ve gone to school for cooking.
And you’ll look forward to getting in the kitchen because preparing delicious and wholesome food will become natural, easy, and FUN.
And the truth is, you’ll start looking forward to cooking!
It’s about loving food as a part of LIFE and not making it any bigger (or smaller) than it should be.
Ok…so let me tell you a little about me (cause I know you’re curious.)
Hi, I’m J. Looney, chef, food educator & mentor, and culinary evangelist.
My passion for food has been a lifelong pursuit of food knowledge, cooking and preparation techniques, and of course, making and enjoying delicious food.
My father has worked in kitchens since before I was born, so I grew up with food as a central theme.
His kitchens were enchanted places for me.
The sounds of steam and sizzling food…
The cadence of large mixers and steady chef’s knives…
The smells of herbs, spices, and deliciousness wafting through the air…
All of these informed many of my earliest experiences with food.
So you see, cooking is literally in my blood.
My first job was washing dishes at a local burger joint when I was just 14 years old.
Now let’s be clear, washing dishes is awful work, but the fact is, I loved every minute of it.
But over time, I worked my way up through the ranks and in several different kitchens.
I’ve done just about every job there is in the restaurant industry, from dishwasher to Executive Chef.
I’ve even been fortunate enough to share my knowledge and passion teaching a course on Cultural Aspects of Food at the University of Utah (more on that on the blog).
In one way or another, food has always been a central theme to my life, and it’s something I’m deeply passionate about.
Food is how I communicate and express emotion.
Food is my love language.
Food is my religion, no joke.
Can I get an AMEN?
Owing to my experiences over the years, I’ve been very blessed to work with some of the greatest food scientists and creative minds in the foodscape, and I’ve learned from every single one of them, from dishwashers to Executive Chefs, from bus boys to business owners.
My mission here is to share the good word, to challenge and expand the way you think about food, and most importantly, CHANGE HOW YOU EAT!
You see, I know what it’s like to be a busy professional – I’ve worked in corporate America, and with the notable differences of sharp blades and hot fires, chef life isn’t that different. I work long hours. It’s mentally and physically exhausting. And at the end of the day, I just want some good, home cooked food. I just spent 10+ hours in the kitchen, I’m not that interested in cooking some more!
And I know that these emotions and experiences are all too familiar to you! You know what this is like, because you live it every day, and I know that deep down, you want something different, you want to change, you want MORE.
So that’s what I’m offering – an easy way to eat mouth-watering, home cooked, nutritious meals during the week with minimal time and effort invested.
You want that classic image of family & friends seated around a table, a glorious feast spread out before them, with fresh fruits and vegetables, roasted meats, and plenty of everyone’s favorite side dishes, right?
I mean, coming home after a long day at work, and being surrounded by the people that are most important in your life to share a hot, home-cooked meal sounds ideal, doesn’t it?
Something to fill the soul and nourish the body, can I get an AMEN?
But the reality is that preparing a meal like that can take time and effort, and after work, how many of us really have energy or interest in that?
And to further complicate matters, more often than not it’s been HOURS since you’ve eaten, so you’re borderline hangry, and really just need some food in your face so you don’t burn everything to the ground out of desperation, right?
What if I told you that with a little planning, you could have a nutritious, mouth-watering meal on the table every night in under 30 minutes, all while improving your skills in the kitchen?
YES, IT CAN BE THAT SIMPLE!
Planning is everything when it comes to eating well, as it is with most things in life.
Taking the time to plan the week’s meals, make a grocery list, and do all of the initial preparation is all that’s required, really.
Now, I ain’t gonna lie, it does take time!
Time you likely don’t have, or would rather invest elsewhere.
But you see, folks, my job is to make it even easier for you – I’ll do all the planning!
I will help you save TIME! (and probably money, too!)
I’ll save you hours of time searching on pinterest, scouring recipe blogs, or flipping through cookbooks, making a shopping list, planning each and every meal for the week.
In addition to the recipes, I’ll give you a grocery list that is organized by category to save you time at the store, and by having a list, you’re less likely to make impulse purchases. This saves you TIME and MONEY!
I’ll teach you the skills and mindset of mise en place (chef language, it means everything in it’s place – ORGANIZATION). And by prepping some items in advance, you can save time on the weeknights, and make cooking that much easier!
So, you see, brothers, sisters, and culinary siblings, you CAN be saved!
You can be saved time!
You can be saved money!
And you can be saved from boxed meals, fast food in a bag, and freezer meals!
An abundance of divine food is your birthright, and I will show you the promised land!
Signing up for my weekly meal plan is about learning to cook, and nurturing your kitchen skills and love of food. It will also save you time and money.
You’ll be eating healthy, nutritious, DELECTABLE food.
You’ll learn to make dishes and cuisines from around the world.
And your friends and family will be wowed by the meals you prepare.
Sure, there are other meal plans out there, but what I bring to the table is decades of experience as a restaurant chef, private chef, caterer, food educator, and food enthusiast. No one loves food more than I do, and I love sharing my knowledge and having my life’s work benefit YOU!
You want to learn to cook MUCH BETTER than you do now.
You want more time freedom.
You want to eat healthier, and you want it to taste AMAZING.
You want an easy, hassle-free solution that makes this all possible.
That’s precisely what I’m offering to you.
Imagine coming home after a hectic day at your job… you kick off your shoes, step into the kitchen, and in under 30 minutes you have a complete, show-stopping, and nutritious meal ready to be DEVOURED because it’s just that delicious. You are comfortable and at ease, knowing that you’ve got a healthy meal, and you’ll have all the time you want to relax, connect with loved ones, spend time doing the things you love, with a full stomach and the lingering smells of the food that you lovingly prepared.
– 8 recipes for easy lunches, which will save you money if you normally eat out for lunch. And believe me…people will be asking how you made such a delicious meal with so little time. Your family and friends will definitely take notice, and they might just wonder if you’ve been taking cooking classes!
– I’ll throw in recipes for a few tasty side dishes as well from time to time, just for good measure
– complete shopping list for the weeks meals
– advance prep list, if you’d like to save even more time during the week
– Easy to follow recipes that can be prepared in around 30 minutes
– nutrition information, to help you maintain your healthy lifestyle and eating habits
– chef tips and kitchen shortcuts that will make prep and cleanup SO much easier (and likely save you money, too!)
Look, I know that even with the best laid plans like what I’m offering you, life happens – some weeks you just don’t have the time and motivation, regardless of how easy it is. So, here’s what I’ll do: I’m throwing in a copy of my eCookBook that has 50 different (and sumptuous!) crock pot meals, one-pot meals, and sheet pan dinners. Even on your most hectic week, you can have a delicious meal on the table with minimal effort and time invested.
Other meal plans can be significantly more expensive and not deliver even a fraction of the value that my meal planning does.
There’s something to be said for a lifetime of experience as a chef, food educator, and culinary instructor.
I want you to get maximum value from this meal plan, so I’m with you every step of the way! From tips & tricks I’ve learned in my kitchens over the years that save time and money, to teaching you cooking techniques in an easy-to-understand format so you’ll be able to improve your skills quickly, I’ve got you covered.
I believe food is powerful.
I believe when food is shared, magic happens.
I believe many of the problems we face in society today can be changed with food.
I believe food can change a persons life.
I believe food can change the world.
I believe preparing food is an expression of love.
I believe in food.
