Ingredients
For the biscuits
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- ⅓ cup butter
- 1 cup buttermilk
For the gravy
- 1 lb sausage
- 1 tablespoon butter butter
- ¼ cup flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon sage
Instructions
For the biscuits
- Preheat oven to 425°
- Whisk together all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
- cut in the butter and mix well, until mix is coarse and crumbly
- Add buttermilk and mix well
- turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead 15-20 times
- roll out to 1" thick, then cut into circles using biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on baking sheet lined with parchment. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
For the gravy
- Place a skillet over medium high heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned.
- Add the butter and cook until melted. Add the flour and mix thoroughly.
- Reduce heat to medium and add the milk. Cook, stirring occasionally, until gravy thickens.
- Add the pepper and sage, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Serve over warm biscuits
