Ingredients

For the biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • cup butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the gravy

  • 1 lb sausage
  • 1 tablespoon butter butter
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sage

Instructions

For the biscuits

  • Preheat oven to 425°
  • Whisk together all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  • cut in the butter and mix well, until mix is coarse and crumbly
  • Add buttermilk and mix well
  • turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead 15-20 times
  • roll out to 1" thick, then cut into circles using biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on baking sheet lined with parchment. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.

For the gravy

  • Place a skillet over medium high heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned.
  • Add the butter and cook until melted. Add the flour and mix thoroughly.
  • Reduce heat to medium and add the milk. Cook, stirring occasionally, until gravy thickens.
  • Add the pepper and sage, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Serve over warm biscuits
