Chef Life: Chapter 7

I read somewhere, once, something to the effect of “if you want to truly master something, you’ve got to be willing to suck at it for long enough.” As far as I can tell through my experience, that’s true. After 5 years of teaching at the U, the department was going...

Chef Life: Chapter 6

Not long after I started at The Prairie Schooner, I accepted a position at The University of Utah, teaching  a class on cultural aspects of food in the Department of Nutrition. I taught Monday afternoons, which was my day off from The Schooner. The class had...

I don’t spend all my time in the kitchen.

I might spend 30 minutes making a meal – and I’m usually taking my sweet time about it. But that’s not how everyone feels. And I can easily teach you all of the same recipes, methods, techniques, and tricks that will allow you to do the same thing.

Welcome!

I’m Chef J. Looney, The Culinary Evangelist.

Why “evangelist”?
Because I love food, and I’m passionate about sharing that with others, inspiring you to expand your palate, to improve your kitchen skills, and to step into your kitchen with confidence and have fun!
And an evangelist is someone who enthusiastically shares what they know.

You deserve to eat good food, delicious food, healthy food, whole food. And, I believe that you also deserve the joy of preparing it!

Let me show you how easy, and fun food can be!

I’m thrilled that you’re here, and I hope you enjoy what I’ve prepared for you.

Savor the day,

Chef J.

I believe that food can be the catalyst for solving many of the problems we see in the world today.

There’s something truly magical about breaking bread with a stranger.

Sharing food bridges even the deepest divides, and brings people together.
